Worship at Cumbernauld Old Rev Fiona Crawford is on sick leave at the moment, so please contact our deacon, Valerie Cuthbertson DCS, or Rev James Gemmell for any urgent pastoral issues. Their details are on our Contact Us page. We will be celebrating the Sacrament of Holy Communion at our worship service on Sunday 3rd December at 11.00am in the Parish Church. The service will be led by Rev Tom Nelson and everyone is welcome. As this Sunday is the first Sunday of the month, the 'big red bucket' will be in the Church vestibule for those who wish to 'pop in a pound' to support the work of our Mission Partners in South Africa. For all the latest news from Cumbernauld Old, please follow our Facebook page or blog. Christmas Songs of Praise Sunday also marks the start of Advent, a season which never seems to be long enough to sing all our favourite hymns and carols, so we're holding a Christmas Songs of Praise event at Cumbernauld Old Parish Church on Sunday 3rd December at 3.00pm when we can enjoy singing our favourite carols to get us in the mood for the festive season. The votes have been counted, so please come along and see whether your favourites have made the short-list (and join in the singing whether or not they have!) Village Food Bank Our Village Food bank is open every Thursday from 10.30 - 12.30 in the Parish Church. Suggested donations include: Tins, jars or packets of spaghetti, beans, meat balls, stew, ravioli, cold meat, hot dogs, pasta, soup, sauces, fruit, custard, rice, carrots, peas, etc., biscuits, jam, meat paste. Toiletries including shower gel, soap, shampoo and deodorant. These can be left at the church any Sunday. Your continued support is greatly appreciated. Fundraising news Kildrum and St Mungo's Church is holding a Christmas Fayre on Saturday 2nd December between 10am and 1pm. Tickets are £3 / adults or £1 / Children and includes cakes and tea / coffee. Donations of home baking would be appreciated also any unwanted gifts sets can be given to Maria. There will be a craft table, Christmas hamper, tombola, and floral table decorations available for sale. Hope to see you there! Thank you to everyone who came along to our recent Car Boot Sale at the manse. The sum of £340.70 was raised for Church funds. In addition, the sale of goods made by the Craft Group raised £180 for Strathcarron Hospice. Thanks again to everyone who came along on the day and also to those whose time and effort made the event possible. The Fundraising Group is again selling Christmas cards this year to raise funds for the church. The cards are the same design as last year, as they were so popular, and the cost is £4 for a pack of 10, so great value. If you would like to buy a pack or two (or more!) please speak to any member of the Fundraising Group. Thank you. Adult Fellowship The final meeting in 2023 of the Cumbernauld Old, Kildrum and St Mungo's Adult Fellowship is on Wednesday 6th December at 2.00pm in the St Mungo's meeting rooms, when we will have a chance to share our 'Pilgrimage Experiences' All welcome! Christmas Gift Appeal 2023 At worship at Cumbernauld Old on Sunday 10th December we will be holding our Christmas Gift Appeal in support of the food banks both here and at Bethlehem House of Bread at Cornerstone Church. If you are able, we invite you to please bring your donations along to Sunday worship on the 10th December. Gifts for all ages are welcome, preferably unwrapped (to allow for easier distribution). A special request for gift vouchers for teenagers has been made, which is something I think we can all understand. Read more here. Festival of Light This year's musical celebration of Christmas, our annual Festival of Light carol service, takes place on Sunday 10th December at 7.30pm in St Mungo's Parish Church, St Mungo's Road, Cumbernauld. It's always one of the highlights of the year, so please put the date in your diary now! There will be an opportunity at the service for those who wish to make a donation to Christian Aid. Hope you can join us! Rainbow Service For some years now, just before Christmas, Cumbernauld Old has held a service especially for people who may be struggling because of bereavement with the 'jolly' side of the Christmas celebrations. This year's Rainbow Service, as it is called, will be on Sunday 17th December at 3.00pm and is an opportunity to come together in a quieter, more reflective time where we can remember those no longer with us and realise through being together that there are others who understand. This service is open to all, whether your loss is recent or long ago. Please bring other family or friends if they would like to come. Please note that the service is not suitable for very young children (under three). Everyone is welcome to stay for a cuppa and the chance to chat afterwards. Peace at Christmas Arria Voices are rounding off their autumn and winter session by holding a concert in Cumbernauld Old Parish Church on Wednesday 20th December at 7.30pm. It will be a real mix of music and songs, old and new. The programme is still to be finalised but please put that date in your diary and watch this space for more details. Used Stamps Appeal As we have done in previous years, Cumbernauld Old is inviting you to collect and donate your used postage stamps, such as those you will get with your Christmas cards, for the Church of Scotland World Mission Used Stamp Appeal. The proceeds from the 2023-24 Appeal will go to ‘Firmly Planted’, a tree planting initiative in Malawi. More information about the project is available at – https://www.churchofscotland.org.uk/connect/campaigns/stamp-appeal We’ll put a box for your stamps in the Church vestibule during December and January, so just pop them in when you’re at church and we’ll pass them on. Thank-you! Cumbernauld Trinity Parish Church Cumbernauld Old and Kildrum and St Mungo's Parish churches are pleased to announce that the new name of our joint church when we come together in union will be Cumbernauld Trinity Parish Church. This decision has come after several rounds of voting by the congregations, and there was an overwhelming majority for this name from the votes on Sundays 15th and 22nd October. The new name will not be used officially until after the Service of Union, which will take place early next year. Thank you to all who participated in this process and voted over the last few months. There is a lot of work currently being done - and much still to be done - in terms of the details and practicalities of the union itself, and we'll keep everyone posted when there's news to share. Please keep everyone involved in your prayers during this complex process. Give As You Live If you use online shopping for any reason, there's a way you can help Cumbernauld Old as you do - and at no extra cost to you. We have signed up to a fund-raising website called 'Give As You Live' and all you need to do is click on that first, select Cumbernauld Old Parish Church as your chosen charity and then just continue with your online shopping.
